Water & Sanitation

Every eight seconds, one child somewhere in this world dies from a disease related to lack of clean drinking water. Mercy Ships works in communities to ensure each village has an adequate and safe drinking supply as well as basic sanitation principles and procedures.

Safe Drinking Water

Mercy Ships helps to address drinking water problems – the source of most disease in the developing world – by partnering with local agencies and communities to provide training and assistance for digging new wells and repairing existing water systems. Trainees receive basic education in maintenance and care of the wells and pumps.

Latrine Construction & Sanitation Training

Mercy Ships teams work with villagers to build latrines, a basic component of a healthy community, and teach them about waterborne diseases and sanitation options. Teams seek to establish a core group of people in each location who are able to teach and motivate others in creating a healthy environment.
